Daily Logistics
Where do they eat snack and/or lunch?
We will come inside the main house for snack and lunch! This will give us time for everyone to use the bathroom, and will give us a break from the weather when it’s cold, hot or particularly rainy. We also have picnic tables outside that we can use on exceptionally beautiful days when we’d prefer to spend more time outside.
Do you provide snacks / lunch?
We do provide snacks for students. Half-day students have snack in the morning. Full-day students have snack in the morning and in the afternoon.
Families should send lunch for full-day students.
Types of snacks offered include: fresh fruit, raw vegetables, crackers, pretzels, and cheese.
[Note: Please be sure to inform us about food allergies in the admission paperwork.]
How does nap time work?
State regulations require that all full-day preschool-aged children be offered a rest period. Each child will have a cot provided by the school to use in our classroom. They may also bring a small pillow/blanket/nap roll from home to use. After the required rest period, students who are awake will be allowed to play quietly on their cots or move to the outdoor play area directly beside the classroom.
In the latter case, I will be with the outdoor students and monitoring those still inside resting using a closed-circuit video-monitoring device. I will never be more than a few feet away from the students, whether they are in the outdoor play area or indoor rest area.
What about the bathroom and potty-training?
Our schedule allows for natural bathroom breaks inside every 1.5-2 hours or as needed.
We do expect students to have at least begun the journey of potty-training. We understand that students at this age may still be working on mastering this skill, and we will support families in this journey by providing reminders and other assistance as needed based on a discussion of family preferences. We do ask that families send extra underwear along with a change of clothes.
Closures & Illness
Do we pay for days that the school is closed?
Tuition is not owed for any days that the school is closed, whether that is for planned holidays or unforeseen illnesses of the teacher or her family.
What if my kid is sick and I need to keep them home?
Families are asked to keep their children home if they are sick in order to prevent the spread of illnesses. Students should be free of symptoms (such as fever, vomiting and diarrhea) without medication for 24 hours before returning. In order to help accommodate this, students can miss up to 10 days of time where they will not be expected to pay tuition.
Do you have a substitute if you’re sick?
At this time, there is no substitute provider available if myself or my children are sick. Therefore the school will be closed. I will make every attempt to notify families as quickly as possible in the case of an unforeseen closure. Families will not be asked to pay tuition for any days the school is closed due to my family’s illnesses.
Weather
What if it’s raining?
We will be outside playing even in the rain! For this reason, any student attending our school will be asked to provide rain gear, which includes: rain jacket, rain pants, and rain boots.
What if it's hot or cold outside?
We believe strongly that–with proper gear and accommodations–we can be outside in all temperatures! When it is hot outside, wearing moisture-wicking layers can help keep us cool. Cooling cloths or personal fans can also help. On particularly hot days, there’s nothing better than playing in cold water and enjoying cold treats! On cold days, layering up appropriately–including water proof pants and gloves–will keep us warm.
In addition, we are indoors for snack, lunch, bathroom breaks, and rest time. In excessively hot or cold conditions, we have the ability to play and learn in our indoor classroom as needed.
Do you close for snow / inclement weather?
On days when Henrico or Hanover schools close for weather, our school will be open for optional attendance. If a family chooses to send their student on one of those days, they will pay their regular tuition rate for that day. Any family not attending on one of those days will not owe tuition.
